Jonathan co-founded two alternative asset management businesses - Hampden Insurance Partners Management (Cayman) Limited, a first of its kind $700 million in assets, third-party institutional capital provider to the Lloyd's market in London, and HBV Capital Management LLC, an event-driven asset management firm with peak assets under management of $1.2 billion and offices in New York, London, and Hong Kong which he sold to The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation in 2006. Jonathan conceived of and built these businesses through a disciplined approach to investing and client-focused product development.
Jonathan's asset management and merchant banking background include serving as Director of Allen & Company LLC where he managed alternative funds as well as invested the firm's and his own capital in several successful private investments.
Before Allen & Company, Jonathan assisted his father with forestry and investment management for his family's company, W.R. Bean & Son, Inc., a firm founded in 1894 by his great-grandfather.
Jonathan currently serves as Director of Hampden Insurance Partners Management and President of both W.R. Bean & Son, now a natural resources management company, and J.S. Bean & Son, his family's investment and administrative office.
